Project Description:
This full backyard transformation in Dana Point, California, just steps from the Pacific Ocean, required creative design solutions that pushed boundaries to maximize space, function, and luxury outdoor living. Inspired by Bali-style resorts, the design features custom-built retaining walls to create functional entertainment zones on the sloped lot.
At the heart of the backyard is a custom raised spool (combining pool and spa) surrounded by smooth stucco walls with integrated wall lighting for ambient evening glow. Low-maintenance landscaping with Indian Laurel privacy hedges provides a lush, green backdrop while ensuring full privacy.
The seating area includes a built-in stucco bench with an automated gas fire pit, perfect for year-round outdoor relaxation. The custom-built outdoor kitchen anchors one corner of the backyard with an L-shaped polished concrete countertop, luxury hardware, and elevated bar seating area. A custom-designed steel suspended overhang covers the kitchen, featuring weathered gray wood slats and unique pendant lighting to enhance the Bali-inspired atmosphere.
Porcelain pavers extend from the home’s interior to the outdoor space, creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living experience. This complete transformation blends modern design with tropical resort vibes, maximizing every inch of available space for luxury coastal living.
